Our Story

Quality Cleaning Center has been part of Winchester since July 4, 1964. It began with Ray DuBrueler, a small dry cleaning shop beside the Snow White Grill downtown, and a belief that hard work and good service could build something lasting.

More than 60 years later, the cleaners has served generations of neighbors. The location and services have changed, but the care Ray put into the business still defines its story.

Where it began

Ray grew up knowing what hard work looked like. He started workingas a milkman at 15. By his thirties, he had a family and saw an opportunity to take over a struggling dry cleaning business in downtown Winchester.

He opened Quality Cleaning Center on Independence Day in 1964. What started as a small operation beside the Snow White Grill became a business people returned to year after year, trusting Ray and his team with the clothes and household items that mattered to them.

Built by people who stayed

Ray never saw the business as a one person effort. Its longtime employees helped turn it into the familiar place customers know. At the company’s 60th anniversary in 2024, staff members had more than 70 years of combined experience, in addition to Ray’s 60 years with the business.

The anniversary photo identified Christy Hoover, Francis Helsley, Kim Drummond, Ray DuBrueler, Theresa Peacemaker, and Doris Kennedy. Their names are part of this history. Behind decades of clean, pressed clothes are people who learned their craft, welcomed customers, and took pride in doing the job well.

For many customers, a visit to Quality Cleaning Center became part of the weekly routine. The team got to know the people behind the garments, and customers came to know the people behind the counter.

Growing with Winchester

Quality Cleaning Center eventually moved from its downtown beginnings to South Pleasant Valley Road. As Winchester grew and customers’ routines changed, the business grew with them.

Today, customers can come to the shop for dry cleaning, laundry, alterations, and specialty garment care. Pickup and delivery offer another way to use the services Ray spent decades building. The work still calls for the same attention to detail and personal service that earned the community’s trust in the first place.

Ray’s entrepreneurial spirit reached beyond the cleaners. He also operated Steamway Carpet Cleaners beginning in 1972 and helped build more than 200 homes in the Winchester and Warren County areas. Still, Quality Cleaning Center remained a central part of his life and his connection to the community.

Ray’s legacy

Ray continued showing up for the business well into his nineties. He cared deeply about his employees, his customers, and the place the cleaners held in Winchester.

Ray passed away on June 19, 2026. His loss is deeply felt by the family, team, and community who knew him. His legacy lives in a business he built over six decades, in the people who worked alongside him, and in the care they brought to every customer.
